Quentin Crump

Denver Center for the Performing Arts

At the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, actors get the applause, but individuals behind the scenes make the performance possible.

Enter Quentin Crump, stage right.

As DCPA Director of Safety & Security, many would not know that Quentin is actually an accomplished actor. A 2011 MFA graduate of the National Theatre Conservatory, he has a keen insight into the nuances required to keep actors, guests and staff safe.

“Quentin is an artist himself, so he is personally AND professionally committed to engaging and inspiring through the power of live theatre,” said DCPA President & CEO Janice Sinden.

Over time, he turned his attention from being onstage to protecting those who are. In 2015, he became a Security Specialist followed by lead then manager and, ultimately, Director of Safety & Security in 2023.

Quentin now leads a team of 16 individuals who ensure that the DCPA’s programs are safe, secure and seamless. “Quentin’s knowledge, passion, and preparedness are central to our operations,” said Glen Lucero, Vice President of Venue Operations. “He is an empowering leader, demonstrating trust, fostering staff development, and easily striking a balance between enforcing security and creating a welcoming atmosphere.”

Whether arranging emergency training with Denver Police, Denver Fire and Homeland Security; directing traffic at a crosswalk keep students safe, or extending a helping hand to an unhoused individual, Quentin radiates empathy, compassion and reassurance.

“Quentin has a collaborative approach to promoting the security of our eight venues, 42 condominiums and 24,000 sq/ft warehouse,” said Sinden. “He co-led the DCPA’s first-ever Safety and Security plan and training. His leadership set the tone for everyone involved, ensuring that our artists and patrons are safe.”

Furthermore, Quentin works with area businesses and community to implement procedures that align with the organization’s core values. “We welcome nearly 1 million patrons annually,” added Sinden, “and ensuring that our organization is inclusive and accessible is top of mind every day for Quentin’s team.”

“I consider Quentin one of our closest partners,” said Allison Watrous, Executive Director of DCPA Education & Community Engagement. “He’s very empathetic, which is his superpower, and he approaches others with humanity and care.”

Plus, he’s “possibly the nicest and most considerate person in the world,” added DCPA Senior HR Business Partner Brian Carter.

Quentin Crump — the nicest, most considerate, empathetic not to mention talented and dedicated Director of Safety & Security that the world has never known.
