Alix Corboy
Friends of Chamber Music
Friends of Chamber Music (FCM) has been a vital part of Denver's arts community, bringing world-class chamber music to Denver for more than 70 years. For the last 12 years, Alix Corboy has set the gold standard for non-profit board service, operating in many key board roles in support of this volunteer-based organization. Bringing effective leadership skills and her tireless energy, Alix has served as President of the Board, chair of the Music Committee, and member of the Education and Marketing Committees, often serving concurrently in these roles.
As chair of the Music Committee, which is the heart of our concert-presenting organization, Alix has made her biggest impact, leading this committee for the last decade. While maintaining FCM's high standards in presenting the world's finest chamber musicians, her most indelible mark has been in expanding the list of artists to include minority and women musicians as well as the works of under-represented composers who are part of our main concert series. Alix has been a fearless and visionary leader, guiding FCM's board to broaden our perspective in recognizing fine musicians of color who deserve a place on our concert stage. In addition, Alix has engaged these artists to perform in innovative community outreach programs, collaborating with Denver Public Schools, the Denver Public Library, the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility, local churches, and several homeless shelters, ensuring a broader segment of residents have the opportunity to experience live chamber music.
It is impossible to estimate the number of hours Alix has devoted to FCM and its mission to bring the finest chamber musicians to the Denver metropolitan area. The impact of Alix's commitment to making real progress in FCM's diversity goals has been tremendous for both Friends of Chamber Music and ultimately to our arts and culture landscape.
Alix has a bachelor’s degree in music history from Temple University and a master’s degree in piano performance from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. Before moving to Denver, Corboy served on the piano faculty at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and was affiliated with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society. Locally, Alix has performed with a variety of Denver chamber groups including The Playground, Augustana Arts, and the Denver Philharmonic.
In addition to her work with Friends of Chamber Music, Alix has been an eight-year board member of Mile High Early Learning, currently serving as Vice-Chair of Development. She is also a tireless community advocate for both the homeless and immigrant populations in Denver.
It is one (big) thing to volunteer individually, another to lead an organization which relies on volunteers as a role model. FCM continues to thrive because of Alix’s leadership and the organization is in her debt.
